The Ferber Lecture
The Ferber Lecture, established in 1979 in memory of Stanley Ferber, Professor of Art History, is an annual lecture in medieval and/or early modern art or music history. The 2006 speaker is Medina Lasansky, Cornell University, “Graffiti and Gore: Bearing Witness to the Sacro Monte of Varallo”. Recent speakers include Samuel Kinser, “Festal Representations: The Ogre of Art” (2005), Richard Trexler, Binghamton University, “Scholarship Less than Michelangelesque: The Medici Chapel” (2004) and William C. Brumfield, “Citadel of the Faith: The Solovetski Transfiguration Monastery as Symbol of the Russian National Revival” (2003).
The Bernardo Lecture
Established in 1990 through the generosity of Aldo and Reta Bernardo, the Bernardo Lecture is an annual lecture in Medieval Romance literature and/or philology. The 2005 speaker is Nancy Regalado from the New York University, “Reader in the World: Democratizing Interpretation in Medieval French Literature “. Recent speakers include Christopher Kleinhenz,University of Wisconsin - Madison, “Movement and Meaning in the ‘Divine Comedy’: Toward an Understanding of Dante’s Processional Poetics” (2004) and Rachel Jacoff, ” Dante and the Jewish Question” (2003).
